Top sights in Berlin
On the S2, you can reach the buzzing centre of Germany's exciting and versatile capital in just under 25 minutes. Here you will find countless sights and cultural diversity.
The magnificent boulevard Unter den Linden leads to the Berlin Cathedral, right next to the Museum Island and the private residence of Germany's chancellor Angela Merkel. The Bode Museum, the Pergamon Museum, the Old Museum, the New Museum and the Old National Gallery are not to be missed. By the way: did you know that Berlin has more museums than rainy days?
When strolling along the Kurfürstendamm, make a visit to the Memorial Church. It is worth it! As light enters from the outside, the coloured mosaic windows create a breathtakingly beautiful atmosphere. On the prestigious Friedrichstraße, the fine French department store Galeries Lafayette offers excellent dining options. Here you can try on creations from luxurious designer collections without any obligations. Continue your stroll through the Hackeschen Höfe, an area which lots of young, creative Berlin fashion labels have chosen as their base. Around Hackescher Markt, nearly everything (.....) is available for sale. Chic boutiques and trendy restaurants with a high chance to spot celebrities can be found at the Gendarmenmarkt, one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. It is surrounded by the Konzerthaus Berlin, the German Cathedral and the French Cathedral. Did you know? Berlin is the only city worldwide that has three opera houses! Take a break from sightseeing in one of Berlin's many multi-cultural restaurants and bars, a typical Berlin pub called "Kneipe" or at one of the world-famous Berlin currywurst stalls. We will tell you where to find the city's best. You don't like currywurst? In Berlin, you will!
In the mood to spot some wildlife? Then it's off to the Berlin Zoo near Kurfürstendamm, a favourite destination for families. Tired? Enjoy culinary delights on the 6th floor of the KADEWE Department Store. Here, it's all about people watching and being watched yourself.
Afterwards, walk through the Brandenburg Gate on Pariser Platz and explore the Kennedy Museum opposite the new U.S. Embassy and the French Embassy. There you will find Berlin's most famous tourist attraction: Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum. By the way, the "Straße des 17. Juni", which leads from just behind the museum up to the Victory Column, has become Germany's hottest party mile for fans and music lovers alike. There is no other traffic hub worldwide which is closed more often whenever there is something to celebrate! This is typical Berlin.
And there is one more thing that makes Berlin unique: The Reichstag near the Brandenburg Gate is the only government building worldwide that features a public restaurant. Nearby Potsdamer Platz is known as the most modern square in Europe and features the impressive SONY Center. Its dome and is colourfully illuminated every evening. The Museum of Film and Television here is worth a visit. Plus, the CineStar and CinemaxX cinemas on the square host many international film premieres. If that is the case, there is a good chance to spot some Hollywood stars. The Marlene-Dietrich-Platz on the opposite side hosts the international film festival Berlinale every February. During this time, you may see Brad Pitt standing next to you at a petrol station, Leonardo DiCaprio in a convenience store, Sharon Stone at the checkout in the department store or a freezing Ashton Kutcher asking for directions at the traffic lights.
At the Legoland Discovery Centre inside the SONY Center, children can follow a Lego brick from its origins as a colourful pellet to being implemented into the multi-coloured design of a huge monument. The Alexanderplatz square also hosts the Red Town Hall with its famous television tower. At dizzying heights, it offers a magnificent view over Berlin. This is where you will find Berlin's highest bar. Furthermore, the AquaDom and Sea Life provide fascinating insights into the underwater world. Here you can discover 2,600 exotic fish in one million litres of sea water. You will pass through the exhibition in a glass lift, which will provide a stunning view of shimmering corals and colourful fish. At our front desk, you can get tickets which will let you skip the lines at all these attractions plus tickets to see a Berlin Musical.
Oh - there is still so much more that we would like to tell you about. Just come and stay with us! See you soon in the capital!
